Philanthropy is a major component of what makes our house so special. Each year we raise over $2000 for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, which helps fund research and educate others about juvenile diabetes. Members of our house take part in events such as 50/50 raffles at basketball and football games, car washes, trick-or-treating, and bake sales to help raise money towards our goal each year. Our major event, which alone raised $2400 this year, was our annual Casino Night. We decorate our house like a casino and have games such as Texas Hold 'Em, Roulette, and Black Jack. All Illinois Wesleyan students and Bloomington-Normal community members are invited to this event. Play money is sold at the door to gamble with, and prizes donated by surrounding businesses and restaurants are auctioned off at the end of the night. It is a very fun and entertaining time and everyone leaves a winner. Every member in our house not only participates in philanthropic events that benefit the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, but also ones that help other fraternities and sororities on campus and the surrounding community. Many of our members are involved in organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, and numerous mentoring programs in Bloomington-Normal. Philanthropy is a highly important part of Alpha Gamma Delta, because not only does it benefit others, it is also a chance to build lasting memories with your fellow sisters of AGD!
